Vintage: classics never go out of style
The desire to look
different is the prime reason why I love collecting vintage clothing. When I
first told my friends I wanted to promote vintage fashion style- the most
prominent response I got was, “You want to sell old clothes?” Vintage clothing
is the general term for new or second hand garments originating from a previous
era. The definition of vintage is fluid as every era that passes brings forth
new items as vintage. Over the years I believe designers rely on past style
sensations for inspiration because the clothing today has become less unique.
It’s hard not to notice that older styles have made epic comebacks in recent
years as vintage has become a true fashion trend.
The wave of
vintage-wearers proves that fashion isn’t like technology in that newer isn’t
necessarily more desirable. A person can represent an era based on what he/she
chooses to wear. While not everyone appreciates the vintage trend, it’s useful
to understand the inspirations behind it. The popularity of vintage western
clothing has been sparked by a renewed interest in being comfortable. No-matter
how good I want to look; dressing comfortably is my number one drive. Now we
can incorporate that same style as our mother’s or grandmother’s into our own
wardrobe in the most fashionable way for less than we might think.
Collecting vintage
clothing has been a form of escapism for me because vintage brings an element
of discovery to dressing up whilst filling the wardrobe
with individuality and originality. Vintage fashion has an undesirable power to
charm women into an imaginative fairy-tale world where they have the ability to
be whoever they want to be through the clothing they wear. I remember there was
a time I used to love listening to rock music and that was very influential on
my dressing because I so much wanted to relate to the music I listened to and
so I used to dress “crazily” as my friends would term it.Yes, fashion trends
are returning allowing us to visually reflect on the world around us, so let’s
embrace it.
